APPELLATION: Willamette Valley

VINEYARDS: 75% Dundee Hills on Jory Soil (deep Volcanic soil), 25% Eola-Amity Hills AVA on Nekia soil (thinner and rockier Volcanic soil)

VARIETAL: Pinot Noir 100%

FARMING: Certified Sustainable

PLOUGHING: Permanent cove crop in place, in rough cultivation for weed control

SOILS: Iron rich volcanic soil

WEATHER: Continental

VINES: 10-18 year old vines. Traditional “VSP” (vertical shoot positioning) trellising.

HARVEST: Entirely made by hand in ¼ ton bins beginning September 25th and finishing October 5th

FERMENTATION: With the native yeasts from the Estate in small stainless steel tanks. 50% Whole Cluster fermentation, cap management by a mix of pigeage, pumpover and manual punchdown

PRESSING: Traditional.

MALOLACTIC: Spontaneous and complete.

OAK BARREL AGING: 100% of the wine is barrel aged in French oak, 25% new, for at least 10 months.

FINING/ FILTRATION: The wine is allowed to settle naturally by gravity and is only minimally fined or filtered.

CHEMISTRY: Alc. 14.1%. 5.5 g/L Total Acidity 3.66 PH

SULFUR: Minimum

WINEMAKER: John Grochau

PHILOSOPHY: If you have a good vineyard site that is managed well, winemaking is simply guiding the grapes to wine in a safe manner.

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of dark cherry and red raspberry with vanilla, cedar and notes of black tea. The palate is bright, rich and highly textured with assertive black cherry, cola, cocoa and raspberry flavors that continue on the finish.
