about gustavshof

The winery was built in 1924 and it has been family owned and operated for since then. Andreas Roll and his wife, Frederike, began farming organically in 2004 and in 2012 they received their biodynamic certification from Demeter. The whole family is involved in the day to day work of the winery.

The vineyards are located in Gau-Heppenheim in the heart of the rolling hills of the Rheinhessen, at the highest altitude in area. The vineyards enjoy dry conditions and large temperature fluctuations between day and night.

Andreas Roll and his family are committed to caring for their land. They believe that carefully tending to their vines is the surest path to excellent wines. The vineyards are dry farmed organically, without the use of any chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, additive, etc), and grassed over.

Once in the winery, Andreas allows the grapes to speak for themselves, explaining, "In our cellar you will find only minimal technical equipment. High quality grapes is all we need" Andreas allows spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, no winemaking additives and no fining, producing wines with sulfite levels below 30 ppm. The result of these efforts are fragrant, well-balanced wines that reflect that conscientious, dedicated work of the family.
