VARIETAL: 100% Centennial Malbec
VINEYARD: Finca Victoria, Las Compuertas; 3,500 ft altitude; vines planted in 1914; low trellis system
SOILS: Vineyard broken down into 5 parcels, based on soil types: deep clayish soil, limestone, stony soil, frank sandy soil and river stones soil.
FARMING: Organic with clover cover crop; double guyot pruning; hand harvested into 40 lb cases middle of April 2017 (differentiated according to soil type)
WINEMAKING: Grapes from each parcel vinified separately, before final cut was made. Whole grape cold maceration for 5 days. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts on the skins in concrete eggs with 3 daily pisonages for 22 days. 35 days malolactic fermentation in 3rd and 4th use 500 liter barrels.
AGING: 8 months in 500 liter 3rd and 4th use 500 liter oak barrels; 6 months in concrete eggs
BOTTLING: February 1st, 2018. 653 cases made.
TASTING NOTES: Vivid red color with violet hints. Inviting aromas of blackberries, blueberries, plums and violets, with layers of cassis, herbs and earthy notes. Fresh and wide on the palate with a firm mid-mouth, fine grained, rounded tannins and good balance with a long finish.
